Welcome to Aylmerton

Aylmerton is a small village, situated approximately 2.5 miles from both Cromer and Sheringham and adjoining the parish of West Runton which is on the coast of North Norfolk. The village falls within the Norfolk Coast – Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

There are some 210 houses in the village and a population of 440 while the Electoral Roll stands at 382. The oldest part of the village, south of the A148, was in existence well before the Domesday Book was created in 1086. By comparison the area north of the A148 was only created in the late 1920′s in what was part of the Great Wood of the nearby Felbrigg Estate. Indeed, over half of the Estate (which is now owned by the National Trust) is within the parish boundary.

To the north the parish is bounded by further National Trust lands comprising West Runton and Beeston Regis Heaths much loved by walkers and with extensive views over the North Sea.

CENTRAL REFUGE ON A148

At the Parish Council meeting on 13 March 2012, members considered the latest plans for the proposed pedestrian refuge.  Following lengthy discussion, members agreed that they still want the crossing but not in the current position.

Since the meeting, the Parish Council have been advised that the construction of the pedestrian refuge has been put back until much later in the year (provisionally September 2012) to avoid disruption to traffic during the summer holiday season and the need to resolve some design issues.

Norfolk County Council have forwarded more information which will be on the agenda for consideration at the Annual Parish Council Meeting on Tuesday 8th May 2012.  The meeting starts at 7.30pm and is at Aylmerton Village Hall.  There will be time set aside for public participation which will give members of the public the opportunity to comment on the project.  Comments can also be sent to the Parish Council via the Parish Clerk.  All comments will be copied to Norfolk County Council Highways.
